I spotted several “clastic dike” formations today… these are ancient fissures that opened after the main sediment layers were already deposited (fissures were probably caused by warping or shrinkage of these drying clay layers). The clastic dike/dyke cracks were filled with wind-blown or water-washed materials: usually volcanic ash.
